About

Practicing on the Dish with One Spoon territory in Toronto, covered under Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties. This is the traditional territory of many First Peoples, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples.

As a member of Black diasporic communities, I honor the legacies of Black life and culture that have long enriched these lands — including those who arrived through the Trans‑Atlantic Slave Trade, the Oklahoma migration, and the founding of Africville — as well as those who continue to bring wisdom, skill, and creativity as immigrants today.

Hi, I'm Candice.

I received both my Hons BA and my MEd in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto. I grew up in Scarborough within a family that had immigrated from St. George's, Grenada in the 1980s.

Growing up in an immigrant household shaped everything about how I see people — and how I understand the stories we carry about money, worth, and what's possible for us.

As a somatic therapist, my work is influenced by liberation psychology, Black feminist thought, the social determinants of health, narrative therapy, trauma theory, the psychology of money, and the lived experiences of Black people across the diaspora.

My clinical practice is deeply informed by years of frontline experience in community health and advocacy. Having worked within reproductive justice settings—including specialized abortion care and Planned Parenthood—as well as in violence-against-women shelters, I bring a grounded, stigma-free perspective to our sessions. I understand how systems of care and systemic barriers impact your daily life, and I am committed to holding space for the complexities of your story with the depth and safety they deserve.

I am particularly interested in intergenerational trauma — and the ways we take what we have inherited about money and begin to reimagine new possibilities for ourselves. This is the heart of what I do at Liberated Care.

A Resource For Your Journey

Advocating for your own mental health can feel overwhelming, especially when trying to find the right person who gets it. To support you on this journey, I created a free, downloadable guide on How to Find a New Therapist to help you ask the right questions during consultations—whether we work together or not.
