About

I was born in St. George’s, Grenada during a time of revolution. My family immigrated from Grenada and settled in what is now called Tkaronto/Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For thousands of years, Tkaronto/Toronto, Ontario has been the lands of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit.

I respectfully acknowledge and express gratitude for the people who walked before me and survived so that I could live and work on this land.

Candice Frederick, MEd, CCC, RPQ

My name is Candice Frederick (she/her). I’m a therapist, speaker, consultant, and facilitator supporting BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and immigrant communities across Canada through trauma-informed therapy that combines an intergenerational trauma lens with somatic and nervous system-informed care. I work with clients virtually, so people from anywhere in the country can access culturally affirming, inclusive, and compassionate care.

Many people come to me during seasons of change—after a relationship rupture, during burnout or work leave, or when old family patterns start to feel too heavy to carry alone. In our work together, I help you:

  • Make sense of what you’re feeling, noticing patterns with compassion instead of judgment.

  • Reconnect with your body and nervous system through gentle, somatic practices that help release tension and restore energy.

  • Untangle care, boundaries, and guilt, creating space for rest, replenishment, and sustainable self-care.

  • Heal your relationship with money and worth, exploring the deeper beliefs behind patterns of giving, overextending, or self-sacrifice.

  • Explore your experiences within a systems lens, acknowledging the influence of culture, community, and societal structures while finding ways to care for yourself.

I’m a Trauma of Money Certified™ practitioner, and my background spans community health, mental health and addictions counselling, sexual and reproductive health clinics, youth support through Kids Help Phone and Good2Talk, an executive search firm, and higher education. While completing my graduate clinical placement at Women’s College Hospital, I worked closely with the family practice team, integrating mental health support with primary care. This range of experiences shapes the lens I bring to therapy—one that holds both the personal and the systemic, the mind and the body, and the self in relation to the world around you.

I’m a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCPA) and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. “Qualifying” simply means that I practice under professional supervision while completing additional development hours, ensuring that my work remains reflective, ethical, and well-supported.

For nearly a decade, I’ve created and facilitated workshops and speaking engagements on racial trauma, unconscious bias, and inclusive leadership. Many of these offerings integrate somatic and mindfulness practices, which continue to inform how I support clients in navigating both personal healing and the larger systems that shape their experiences.

Education and Training Summary

My Values

  • Working together requires choice, agency, and ongoing communication. onsent is a continuous practice—not a one-time agreement. You have the right to change your mind, ask questions, or pause. Collaboration means we co-create the pace, the goals, and the process. I don’t assume what’s best for you; we figure that out together, in conversation and with care.

  • I see reimagining new possibilities for living as a creative process. Healing, unlearning, and building something different all require imagination. Whether we're making meaning, shifting patterns, or envisioning a future that feels more aligned, creativity is part of how we adapt, resist, and grow.

  • I see accountability is an active and relational practice. It means taking responsibility for our actions, especially in moments of tension or rupture. I recognize that power dynamics exist in all spaces and relationships, including this one. For me, accountability is less about what we say we value, and more about how we show up—with care, consistency, and a willingness to repair when needed.

  • I believe deeply in body autonomy and the right to make choices about one’s own body. I am unequivocally pro-choice and honor each person’s journey in making decisions that feel right for them. I also provide a non-judgmental, compassionate space to explore conversations about sexuality and intimacy. I recognize how shame can live in the body and mind, and I’m committed to creating space where those feelings can be acknowledged, held, and transformed.

  • I recognize that identity is fluid and always evolving. Our lived experiences are shaped by many interconnected factors—culture, history, and the legacies we each carry. Naming these experiences is important because they influence how we connect with others and with ourselves. In this space, your stories matter, and they shape how we understand each other and the work we do together.

My Approach

  • My approach is rooted in an anti-oppressive, intersectional, feminist, trauma-informed, somatic, and strengths-based lens. These frameworks guide how I hold space, understand experience, and support growth.

  • I work with a lens that is culturally responsive and grounded in collective care and ancestral wisdom. This means understanding wellness and well-being within the realities of generational trauma and healing. I hold awareness of how we have survived—and continue to survive—within systems like capitalism, white supremacy, and hustle culture, and I center this understanding in my work.

  • I aim to provide an emotionally supportive space where we move at a pace that honors your body and nervous system. Healing isn’t always comfortable or easy—especially when rewiring patterns—but together we create space to hold those moments with care, curiosity, and patience. We listen deeply to what your body needs and figure out ways to respond that feel good and right for you.
